It seems like hardly a week goes by that the news doesn’t report a serious data breach somewhere. Well, this time it involves tax exempt entities. A site that is used to process tax forms for nonprofit organizations on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service recently suffered such an attack.
Fortunately, no ultra-sensitive data like Social Security numbers was compromised. It appears that most data accessed would have eventually become public record anyway, though not all. It is possible that donor information was accessed, but that has not been confirmed.
